VNCI RNM vs. Openport 2.0 J2534: Best VCI for Renault CAN CLIP and ADT

When choosing between the VNCI RNM and the Tactrix Openport 2.0/Godiag J2534 for use with Renault CAN CLIP or ADT software, it’s essential to consider compatibility, functionality, and cost-effectiveness.

Renault CAN CLIP:

  • VNCI RNM:
    • Works seamlessly with Renault CAN CLIP software.
    • Known as a MTS6535 clone, it is a reliable Chinese VCI.
    • Requires no additional modifications and functions as a CLIP with J2534 driver and native DVD.
    • Fully compatible with both older and newer Renault models, including those with K-line (pre-2005).
    • Capable of performing diagnostics, coding, and programming.
  • Tactrix Openport 2.0:
    • Also works well with Renault CAN CLIP software, both original and clone versions.
    • Requires modifications to the Windows Registry for proper setup (refer to guides on setting up Openport with Renault CLIP).
    • Limited in functionality with older K-line models, primarily supporting only diagnostic functions.

Renault ADT:

  • VNCI RNM:
    • Functions as the MTS6535 VCI, which is the recommended device for Renault ADT software.
    • Supports diagnostics, programming, and immobilizer functions across Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi vehicles from 1996 onwards.
    • Tested and verified to work smoothly with Renault ADT software, including models with secure gateways (e.g., Traffic 3 Phase 2).
    • Compatible with DoIP, making it suitable for newer vehicles requiring ADT and Renault E-Token.
  • Openport 2.0/Godiag J2534:
    • Does not support Renault ADT software and lacks compatibility with DoIP.
    • Not suitable for programming or handling secure gateway models.
    • Limited to basic diagnostics with CLIP software and cannot be used with ADT.

Recommendation:

  • VNCI RNM is the better choice if you need a Renault/Nissan-specific diagnostic tool that offers full functionality, including diagnostics, coding, and programming. It is compatible with both CAN CLIP and ADT software and works with all Renault models, including those with secure gateways.
  • Tactrix Openport 2.0 is a more affordable option if you only need to perform basic diagnostics and do not require extensive functionality. It works well with CAN CLIP software but is limited in scope, particularly with older K-line models and newer vehicles requiring ADT.

If your needs are more specialized and involve advanced functions, the VNCI RNM is the more comprehensive and reliable choice.
