Conditions That Trigger This Code:

The Engine Control Module (ECM) will generate this code when it detects an issue with the engine coolant temperature under the following conditions:

  • The engine has been running for more than three minutes.
  • The engine coolant temperature has exceeded the trigger value for the event code.
  • Diagnostic code 110-3 (Engine Coolant Temperature open/short to battery positive) is not active.
  • Diagnostic code 110-4 (Engine Coolant Temperature ground short circuit) is not active.

System Response:

  • An event code is logged.
  • The warning light illuminates, and the diagnostic light flashes the corresponding event code.

Possible Performance Impacts:

  • E361-1: No performance impact.
  • E361-2: Engine power is reduced by 1% per second, and the low power lamp will illuminate.
  • E361-3: The switch-off lamp will illuminate. If the trip value is reached, the ECM will shut off the The engine will only shut down if the customer programmable “Shutdown Activation” parameter is enabled.
