Problem:
Attempting to clone a 2019 Mercedes Benz S450 FBS4 Bosch ECM MED17.7.3.1 using the OBDSTAR DC706 on the bench resulted in a failure to start the car. Although the EEPROM and flash were read and written successfully, the car did not start.
Solution:
To resolve this issue, you need to update the ECM software to version V30.90 or later. Earlier versions of the software only read and write the internal EEPROM and internal flash, but the MED17.7.3.1 ECM also includes an external flash chip (S29CD016J).
Version V30.90 addresses bugs and adds functionality for reading and writing the external flash.
Steps to Clone the ECM:
- Update ECM Software:
- Ensure that the ECM software is updated to version V30.90 or later.
- Read/Write External Flash:
- Use OBDSTAR DC706 to read and write the external flash (EXT flash) in addition to the internal EEPROM and flash.
Supported Functions in V30.90:
- Read/Write EXT flash functions for:
- BENZ BOSCH MED17.7.3.1 TC1797
By performing these steps and ensuring you read and write the external flash, you can successfully clone the ECM for the 2019 Mercedes Benz S450 FBS4.
